Thank you for you support
The population in Elloughton-cum-Brough is set to top 13,500 in the next few years as over 1000 new homes are yet to be built in our ever-expanding town.

Add the residents of nearby Welton & South Cave and our population already surpasses the likes of Driffield – which got a new leisure centre and pool in 2019 costing £6.8 million. And to top that Goole Leisure Centre is to get a £17 million upgrade including a new bowling adventure and food court.

We do not begrudge other areas their new leisure centres. But our local leisure facilities are not keeping pace with housing and other developments which are being forced on us.
I and the other Dale Ward Councillors have raised this issue on various occasions, but we keep getting knocked back by Council Officers.

Why is this?

1. The Conservative-run Council policy prevents an inland Leisure Centre from being built within a 25-minute drive from another.
This puts Elloughton-cum-Brough, South Cave and Welton in the catchment area of the Haltemprice Sports Centre! But with all the housing development going on in Hessle, Kirk Ella, Anlaby, Willerby and Cottingham as well activities are massively oversubscribed.
This policy must change!
2. “Budget restraints” is always the Council's stock response.
A new Centre on Brough South Development, for example, would cost upwards of £20 million today. The Council cries there aren't the funds, but I believe that finding them isn't insurmountable. After all, similar amounts have been found for other places.
Frustratingly, the Council has reserves, which they insist need to be protected for emergencies.
However, funding can be sought from a variety of other sources including Government, Lottery and Sports Grants as well as a possible Public Private Partnership with the Brough South Developers.
It just needs the political will - which has been in very short supply so far.

If elected Coleen and I, with your support, will campaign work together our fellow East Riding councillor(s), council officers and outside bodies to find ways to fund a new Leisure Centre.
